Nurses Week 2026 was celebrated at RCHRC from 5thMay to 9 th May 2026 to recognise and honour the dedication, compassion, and invaluable contributions of nursing professionals. The celebration was organised under the theme "Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives," emphasising the vital role of nurses in strengthening healthcare services and ensuring patient safety.
Day 1: Inaugural Ceremony and Poster Competition (5th May 2026)
The week commenced with an inaugural ceremony, followed by a Poster Competition held at the Training Hall. Participants creatively presented concepts aligned with the theme of the year. The posters were evaluated by a panel of judges on the basis of content quality, clarity, visual design, creativity, effective use of visual aids, organisation, and overall presentation.
Day 2: Expert Talk on Nursing Empowerment (6th May 2026)
An inspiring talk on the theme was delivered by Ms Jenny Leena, Principal, Shine National University, Ranchi. The speaker elaborated on the concept of nursing empowerment, emphasising its significance in strengthening professional practice and enhancing patient care outcomes.
The session highlighted the true meaning of being an empowered nurse, and focused on practical pathways to empowerment through continuous learning, leadership development, professional confidence, accountability, and evidence-based practice.
Day 3: Best Out of Waste Competition (7th May 2026)
A Best Out of Waste Competition was organised to encourage eco-friendly practices and the creative utilisation of recyclable materials. The event reflected the innovative spirit of nurses beyond clinical care, and promoted sustainability awareness among participants.
Day 4: Short Video Competition (8th May 2026)
A Short Video Competition was conducted on the theme "Empowered Nurses Save Lives, Patient Safety Starts with Me." The competition encouraged innovative expression and creative presentation of ideas related to nursing empowerment and patient safety.
The event provided a platform for participants to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and commitment to promoting safe healthcare practices. The entries reflected thoughtful perspectives on the vital role of empowered nurses in ensuring quality patient care and safety.
The competition was judged on relevance to the theme, creativity and originality, educational value, communication and message clarity, technical quality, team participation and coordination, practical application, and overall impact.
Day 5: Quiz Competition (9th May 2026)
A Quiz Competition was conducted on the Kahoot! platform, adding an interactive and engaging dimension to the celebration. Students from Satish Kumar Sinha Memorial College of Nursing and staff members from RCHRC actively participated.
The quiz tested participants' knowledge in nursing practice, patient safety, infection prevention, and healthcare standards. The digital platform made the competition lively and interactive, encouraging active participation while promoting learning through a competitive environment.
International Nurses Day Celebration (12th May 2026)
The culmination of Nurses Week was marked by the celebration of International Nurses Day on 12th May 2026, observed with enthusiasm and reverence.
The event commenced with a tribute to Florence Nightingale, followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting by members of the Tata Cancer Care Foundation (TCCF), the Medical Director, and the Nursing Superintendent, symbolising dedication to the nursing profession.
This was followed by the Nurses' Oath-Taking Ceremony, led by Ms Nisha Soren, reaffirming the commitment of nurses towards compassionate, ethical, and patient-centred care.
The Medical Director and Group Nursing Head delivered addresses encouraging the nursing fraternity to continue striving for excellence, professionalism, and quality patient care. Their remarks underscored the significant role of nurses in healthcare delivery and patient safety.
A cake-cutting ceremony was conducted by the nursing team to mark the occasion. As a token of appreciation for their contributions, the HR team felicitated all nurses with roses, appreciation cards, and gifts.
