Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (RCHRC) was among the key participants at JASICON 2025, the annual academic conference organised by the Jharkhand State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI). The three-day event was held from November 14-16, 2025 at Tata Motors Hospital in Jamshedpur. Over 130 delegates at the conference included surgeons, postgraduate trainees and faculty members from across Jharkhand and neighbouring states, fostering an environment of learning, collaboration and innovation in surgical care.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr Pravin R. Suryawanshi, President of ASI, in the presence of stalwart Dr Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and other notable surgeons. Under the leadership of event Chairman Dr Sanjay Kumar and Organising Secretary Dr Arunima Verma, the conference delivered a comprehensive programme combining scientific sessions, live surgeries and networking opportunities.
Day 1 opened with a Live Surgery Workshop, featuring advanced demonstrations such as laparoscopic hernia repair, proctology surgeries, ERCP, varicose vein interventions, PCNL, and endoscopy. RCHRC’s Dr Deepak Kumar, Consultant Radiation Oncology, delivered an impactful talk on non-operative treatment of oral cavity cancer, emphasising the successful use of brachytherapy. Dr Kumar also chaired sessions on paediatric oncology and breast cancer.
On Day 2, Dr Amitesh Anand, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncology, RCHRC, presented an engaging session on sphincter-preserving strategies in rectal cancer. Day 3 concluded with Dr Nishant Yadav, Consultant Surgical Oncology, RCHRC, sharing insights on the principle of “less is more” in breast cancer management.
Each of the conference sessions focused on the evolving landscape of surgical practice, highlighting evidence-based techniques, new technologies, and tangible solutions to clinical challenges. The robust academic agenda was designed to benefit both, practicing surgeons and postgraduate residents, by emphasizing skill development and professional growth.
JASICON 2025 also featured industry participation, with 18 companies showcasing products and innovations in surgical instruments, pharmaceuticals, robotics, and hospital services. RCHRC maintained a dedicated stall, providing details of its facilities, services and outreach efforts, aimed at making quality cancer care affordable and accessible. Thirty-five doctors visited the RCHRC stall for interactive discussions over the course of the annual event.
This conference provided an invaluable platform for networking and collaboration, reinforcing the surgical community’s commitment to excellence in Jharkhand, and beyond.
