Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Hosts Swasth Sahiya Samagam to Observe World Health Day

RCHRC hosted the Swasth Sahiya Samagam, engaging over 300 Sahiyas in educational and screening activities to empower the frontline healthcare workers and enhance cancer awareness and detection in their communities.

In a powerful demonstration of community outreach, Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (RCHRC) hosted the Swasth Sahiya Samagam, an educational and screening event for Sahiyas, on April 6, 2024 in the hospital premises. Part of RCHRC's ongoing cancer awareness efforts, the Samagam was aimed at educating our frontline healthcare workers – Sahiyas, on warning signs of cancer, diagnosis and treatment options, and the importance of timely screening. Over 300 Sahiyas from Ormanjhi and Kanke blocks participated in the event and had the opportunity to undergo cancer screening.

Themed "Swasth Sahiya, Swasth Samaj," the daylong event aligned perfectly with this year's World Health Day theme, "My Health, My Right." RCHRC understands the critical role Sahiyas play. These dedicated healthcare workers act as a vital bridge between medical resources and those who need them most. Recognising their invaluable service, RCHRC hosted the Swasth Sahiya Samagam as a gesture of appreciation and a call to action to empower Sahiyas with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively raise awareness about cancer and its early detection in their communities.

Jharkhand faces a significant challenge with its high cancer rates. Recognising the need, RCHRC oncologists stepped up to empower Sahiyas at the Swasth Sahiya Samagam. Dr Deepak Kumar, Radiation Oncologist, shed light on early warning signs and risk factors of cancer. Dr Abhiram Bhoyar, Surgical Oncologist, discussed cancer diagnosis and treatment modalities, while Dr Rajanigandha Tudu, Medical Oncologist, dispelled prevalent myths about cancer and educated the Sahiyas on screening techniques.

Chief Guest Dr Prabhat Kumar, Civil Surgeon and Chief Medical Officer of Ranchi, emphasised the Sahiya’s crucial role in early cancer detection. He urged prompt treatment at specialised oncological facilities for better outcomes. He praised RCHRC for being a beacon of quality cancer care in Jharkhand.

The Sahiyas expressed their gratitude of RCHRC’s acknowledgment of their dedication to community health. These frontline health workers are vital in delivering essential healthcare services, especially to remote and tribal communities. The event highlighted the importance of empowering Sahiyas to improve healthcare access and promote well-being in the region.
