RCHRC recently concluded a week-long celebration for International Nurses filled with engaging activities and recognitions, which honoured nurses' contributions while advocating for their continued support and development.
Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (RCHRC) recently concluded a week-long celebration to honour nurses during International Nurses Week, from May 6 to May 12, 2024. The theme, "Our Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care," highlighted the vital role nurses play in healthcare systems globally.
May 12 marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, and has been officially designated as International Nurses Day since January 1974. The week aimed to redefine how people view nursing, showcasing the economic and societal benefits of supporting nurses. A well-equipped and diverse nursing workforce is key to providing high-quality patient care.
The week-long celebration began on May 6 with an inauguration ceremony featuring a warm welcome address by Capt Jeslin. Chief Guest, Dr Sudha Rani, Principal of the College of Nursing at SVIMS - Tirupati, unveiled the theme. The program also included a lamp lighting ceremony, recitation of the Nurse's Pledge led by Ms Jemi Pullanthara, Head of Nursing at TCCF, SVICCAR & RCHRC, and management committee speeches.
Throughout the week, nurses participated in various engaging activities like quiz and poster competitions, elocution contests to build camaraderie and celebrate the talent within the nursing community.
The week culminated on May 11, International Nurses Day, with a special tribute to nurses led by Dr (Col) Madan Mohan Pandey, Medical Director, RCHRC, and lamp lighting by Chief Guest, Dr Chandra Kishore Shahi, Director-in-Chief Medical Services, Government of Jharkhand.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of Nursing Awards for the week's competitions and the recognition of outstanding contributions by nurses. Certificates were also awarded to participants of the Nurse's Fellowship Program, acknowledging their commitment to professional development.
Smarita Das, Nursing Superintendent at RCHRC, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the dedication and resilience of nurses in delivering compassionate care.
RCHRC's International Nurses Week 2024 celebration was a resounding success. It served as a platform to honour the past, celebrate the present, and envision the future of nursing, emphasising the indispensable role of nurses in shaping a strong healthcare system.
